Always striving, always wanting, always desiring more. Our world always selling, pushing, manipulating us to feel like we need more.
It is never enough.
There is always the next best thing.
The next best version.
The next best deal, upgrade or model.
When do we get to arrive at contentment in life?
To feel satisfied with what we have?
I know this desire to have more burns in me somedays too.
I become aware to this sensation within me first and have trained myself to not react immediately.
Somedays the desire does win and I upgrade my possession before the day has passed by.
But more often than not I can find contentment with everything I have. I find things to be grateful for.
So what happens when there is something big lacking? Like a safe home? Or food on the table? Or love in your life?
For me, I turn to my Saviour who fights these battles on our behalf. He can do anything. He already has the victory over whatever you need in your life.
King Jesus is with you in every moment and will hold your hand on those dark days when you feel stuck and like nothing is going right.
I worship Him and Pray for Him to meet all of my needs.
Psalm 23 says 'The Lord is my Shephard. I want for nothing.' In some versions the words are, 'The Lord is my Shephard. I lack nothing.' I am in awe that the Lord of Lords is able to fill us up to the brim. Later in this Psalm it reads, 'You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.' How amazing that Jesus not only fills our cups if we only take the time to see and know Him. But He will fill your cup so that it overflows with blessings! You will have MORE than enough!
Philippians 4:19, Paul says, 'And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Jesus Christ.
Knowing that I cannot take anything with me to heaven is a good reminder that I don't need to store up things on earth. The Apostle Paul also shares in 1 Timothy 6:7 'For we brought nothing into the world, and we can't take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.'
Start declaring that you have all you need and watch our Almighty Lord lavish you with the gifts of God. James 1:17 says 'Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change, like shifting shadows.'
Praise God for sending you the most awesome gift of all...Jesus! Start by whispering his Holy Name. And see that your heart starts to change. Your desires start to change. Your wants start to change.
Instead peace and contentment will fill you up rather than our material world.
Read this next verse slowly and meditate on it. It is from The Passion Translation and will blow your mind!
'Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you.'
